Doreen Monteleone, Ph.D. is Arboretum Liaison and a past president of Bayard Cutting Arboretum Horticultural Society. She is a class of 2014 Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County Master Gardener and was the 2021 CCE Suffolk Master Gardener Volunteer of the Year. For nearly 10 years she has volunteered in many capacities at the Arboretum. Her professional career began in oceanographic research, but for more than 35 years focused on sustainability issues in manufacturing industries. Doreen is an award-winning author, published more than 65 articles and contributed to five books on environmental issues. She is a frequent speaker on culinary herbs, figs and sustainable gardening. Doreen holds a Ph.D. from Stony Brook University. She spoke to us in October 2025 on the topic of figs.
